Axes ropes in ex-Alcatel COO
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JULY 28. What is a loss to the French phone equipment-
maker Alcatel SA is a gain to the Bangalore-based nascent telecom
software product company, Axes Technologies. The Indian company
has managed to rope in Mr. Krish Prabhu, who has quit as chief
operating officer (COO) of the French company, to its board. Mr.
Prabhu's presence on the board will give a fillip to the `bigger
expansion plans' of Axes Technologies. ``Further, his influence
in the global telecom market will help us get more business,''
says a company source.
Mr. Prabhu, according to the source, has ``agreed to work with
Axes for half the time on business development". The Indian
company, on its part, ``is looking forward to working with him
and capitalising on all his contacts and experience."
Commenting on Mr. Prabhu, Mr. Paul Pandian, Chairman, Axes
Technologies, said ``He (Mr. Prabhu) can move freely between the
lab and Wall Street.''
Telecom industry circles here are convinced that Mr. Pandian's
long-standing relationship with him has probably facilitated Mr.
Prabhu's entry into the board of Axes.
The five-year-old Axes has its head office in Bangalore. It has a
development centre in Chennai as well. It is primarily engaged in
telecom-focussed software products. Incidentally, Axes is a
development partner of Alcatel. It has on its rolls over 600
software engineers. It has an independent product development
outfit, iPGen, which is developing a family of products for next
generation.
