Gopi Chand bows out
JAKARTA, JULY 28. Second seed P. Gopi Chand crashed out of the
Indonesian Open badminton following a 2-7, 6-8, 0-7 defeat to
Marvele Mainaky 2-7, 6-8, 0-7 in the semifinal here on Saturday.
In Sunday's final, the fourth-seeded Indonesian will take on
eighth-seeded Malaysian Lee Tsuen Seng, who upstaged top- seeded
Korean Lee Hyun Il 7-5, 7-5, 7-4.
The women's final will be between favourite Chen Wang of Hong
Kong and unseeded Ellena Angelina of Indonesia. Surprisingly,
Angelina knocked out second seed compatriot Lidya Djaelawijaya
without dropping a game on way to the final.
The results (semifinals): Men's singles: Lee Tsuen Seng (HKG) bt
Lee Hyun Il (Kor) 7-5, 7-5, 7-4; Marleve Mainaky (Indonesia) bt
P. Gopi Chand (Ind) 7-2, 8-6, 7-0.
Women's singles: Chen Wang (HKG) bt Cindana Hartono (Indonesia)
5-7, 7-3, 7-1, 7-2; Ellena Angelina (Indonesia) bt Lidya
Djaelawijaya (Indonesia) 7-4, 7-3, 8-6.
