10 local observers to monitor Coprn. polls

CHENNAI, OCT. 10. The State Election Commission has appointed 10
local observers for the poll to the Chennai Municipal
Corporation.
These observers are assigned one zone each to monitor the process
in their jurisdiction in two phases. Initially, they will go to
the areas on the day prior to the poll, which is slated for
October 16, to see whether ballots and other materials have
reached the booths in proper condition; the poll officials have
reported to duty at the appointed time and on the day of
election, to monitor the polls. Later, they will monitor counting
of votes.
According to an official release, the observers have been
appointed as it will not be possible for one person to cover the
entire city. Earlier, the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Text
Book Corporation, Mr. Sanwat Ram, IAS, was appointed observer for
the election to the Chennai Corporation.
The following is the list of local observers with their
jurisdiction mentioned in brackets:
Mr. P.S. Thirugnanam, Additional Registrar (zone-I, division
numbers 1 to 13), Mr. R.S. Natarajan, Special Officer (SO), TNSC
Bank (II, 14 to 31), Mr. A.M. Jayabalan, Additional Registrar
(Marketing), (III, 32 to 49), Mr. Sundararajan, S.O., Land
Development Bank (IV, 50 to 63), Mr. Chandrasekaran, S.O.,
Chennai Central Bank (V, 64 to 78), Mr. Jamal Mohammed, S.O.,
Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Cooperative Society (VI, 79 to 96), Mr.
Bhagawat Ram, Additional Director (Sugar) (VII, 97 to 113), Mr.
P. Bhadrinarayanan, Joint Director (Agriculture) (VIII, 114 to
129), Mr. Altaf Mohammed, Joint Director (Agriculture), (IX, 130
to 141) and Mr. Ardhanari, Additional Director, Tamil Nadu State
Agricultural Marketing Corporation (X, 142 to 155).
