Welcome move
Sir, - The NCERT's recommendation that there should be no
pass/fail till the 10th standard public examination is indeed
welcome. The move will improve the standard of education.
Many schools get better results because they admit only good
students. And by failing weak students at various stages, the
schools present in the public examination only those who will
most probably pass. If no-detention policy is followed, these
schools will have to pay more attention to the weak students -
which is their most important purpose - to ensure that a good
percentage of those who reach the 10th standard is capable of
passing.
Ramakrishnan,
Coimbatore
