From strings to songs

SRR - Carnatic Classical Vocal - Mannargudi Sambasiva Bagavathar Sahityams - M. Chadrasekharan and K. V. Krishnan - Price Rs. 33.

VIOLIN VIDWAN M. Chandrasekharan displays his prowess as a vocalist in the first half of this album. He has rendered Mannargudi Sambasiva Bagavathar's varnam in Sriragam, and kritis in Hamsadwani, Atana, Suddhasaveri and Kharaharapriya, with considerable aplomb to be categorised as a consummate singer.

On side B, K. V. Krishnan, a senior musician, has selected songs in Ramapriya, Sahana, Sankarabharanam, Mandari, Mand (a popular favourite of Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer and also Santhanam) and Pantuvarali. The songs on various deities in the Hindu Pantheon, in Sanskrit, Telugu and Tamil, exude a fervent appeal. The accompanists for the programme are G. Bharati and S. Varadarajan on the violin, and Umayalpuram Kalyanaraman on the mridangam.
