Hindustani recital

AMIR KHUSRO Sangeet Academy, a non-profit charitable trust, committed to promoting Hindustani Classical music in Chennai, will present a Hindustani music recital by Rita Dev Paul, on December 1, at the Music Academy mini hall, at 7 p.m.

Guru Uday Shankar Mukherjee introduced Rita to music at an early age. After completing her Masters in Music, she continued her training in the art under Guru Prof. Chittaranjan Jyotishi, who in turn was a student of Padmasri Pt. Balawant Rai Bhatt of Gwalior Gharana. She received her Doctorate in Music and also bagged the prestigious Pt. Omkarnath Thakur Award in 1991.

From the year 1989, Rita's tutelage has been under Padmabhushan Girija Devi, for advanced training in classical and light classical.

On the occasion, D. K. Pattammal, Vyjayanthimala Bali, Mrs. YGP and Dr. K. J. Cherian (Chennai Kaliappa Hospital) will be honoured with the Amir Khusro Sangeet Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.
