Catching up with Heath Streak

It was a moment to cherish for the budding cricketers of the twin cities when they interacted with the Zimbabwean all rounder, Heath Streak, at a coaching clinic.

THEY WERE there in fairly large numbers, the excitement palpable as all eyes were waiting to see Heath Streak. And when he came the children did not pounce on him with their autograph books but systematically lined up to interact with their hero.
The boys from Arshad Ayub's coaching school as well as some children of the members of the Kakatiya Ladies Club gathered at the Hina Mahal, ITC Kakatiya Sheraton Hotel and Towers for the Heath Streak Coaching Clinic organised by Sandpiper. For over an hour, the all rounder from Zimbabwe bore the heat (as the event was in the open) and patiently answered queries of all the budding cricketers. who were dressed in white, sporting white and blue caps. The initial queries related to Streak's experience of international cricket. - ranging from how he bowls and bats to how he plays under pressure, to the secret of his success. To a question on how he bowls to the nation's hero Sachin Tendulkar, Streak laughingly replied "it is not nice to bowl to Sachin as one is always under pressure with enormous crowds cheering their hero but it is a good challenge and that's what international cricket is all about."
The questions in the latter half veered to technical aspects. - on how to become a good bowler, batsmen, wicketkeeper, a captain, an international cricketer and how to prepare oneself mentally for the game.
Streak constantly emphasised on hard work, dedicated practice, concentration and working in unison with the coach. "It is a learning experience and I am learning every day," said Streak, urging children to watch more cricket. (luckily these days there is a surfeit on television).
Not once did he get irritated while answering. This interactive session concluded with Streak signing autographs leaving a smile on the faces of the youngsters.
