Bright as the sunshine... .

DESIGN EMERGES from a soul filled with ideas. All ideas are the child of inspiration. Just about anything can inspire the creative buds. This season one dips into the sheer simplicity of the classic, Hellenica costume tradition to emerge with some Indian and some fusion silhouettes.

The Monisha Bajaj Summer Collection is said to prepare you for surprises. It claims to open a new book in design, a whole new style direction. The inspiration emerges from the sheer subtlety of the classic era where minimalism led to experimentation in drape and this duality emerges right through the collection.

An experimentation with cuts, colours, embroideries, wrap techniques and helm lines marks the collection design. Predictability becomes extinct as skirts go beyond asymmetrical lines to emerge with varied silhouette, brought alive through stylszed wraps and interesting tailored techniques. Fish tails, bias cuts, a tuck here, a detail there.... fuss is just a murmur as straight lines complement drapes and bright colours. Solids are a statement. Specially in the collection that fuses ochre with sunshine. Lilacs, fuchsia, pinks and shades of white offer calm in the hot sun as drama comes true in hot pinks, yellows and other fresh colours.

Drape styles are omnipresent with other detailing emerging in the use of bright wool that crafts graphic motifs, lurex embossing in metal that lend gloss, and regal, delicate embroideries that combine the finest in dull gold work with sparkling crystals. White glitter is a strong direction. Shading with minute detailing lends an elegant note. At the same time, long, fine silk tassels and fringes give the collection a feel of make believe.
