ASK SHOPPING buffs which season they like best and the reply invariably is: the discount season. No summers and winters for them. Their loyalty lies with the off-season discounts. After all, these help them don the hottest brands without burning a hole in the pocket.
In a country, where brands such as Levi's find very few takers beyond the moneyed few, these discounts seem to be a godsend. So, what if the stuff on sale are seconds. A defect or two is hardly a problem, especially if it's not visible to the eye. Kicking off the `after-summer' sale this year is the Levi's and Dockers showroom at the Catholic Centre complex, General Hospital junction. It offers a discount of up to 60 per cent on jeans, T- shirts, trousers, cargos and shorts for either sex, till June 9.
The much-advertised Dockers mobile pants with extra pockets tucked inside the waist seam and hidden behind zippers on the legs are available for Rs. 1,099 each. Dockers' micro-sanded twill, wrinkle-free cotton trousers, in regular fits and flat-fronts, come for the same price. And there are myriad colours to choose from -- cream, putty, olive, grey, black, blue-black and khakis.
Dockers T-shirts come in round-necks and polos in a variety of finishes. Striped polos in blue, white and beige can be had for Rs. 599, while single-coloured ones can be picked up for Rs. 499 each. Its round-necked polos come for Rs. 599 each. Wrinkle-free shirts cost Rs. 499 each and an international line of checks just Rs. 599.
Levi's Chinese-collared tops are priced at Rs. 499 while it's worked upon shirts come for Rs. 599 each. Denim shirts in shades of black and blue in various finishes range from Rs. 549 to Rs. 699. Those with a penchant for whites may pick up shirts for Rs. 699, while ribbed tees in round and v-necks come for Rs. 399.
For those who prefer the `real' stuff comes the 501 top-of-the-line Levi's jeans, which is pre-washed. Imported from abroad, this range comes for Rs. 1,499. Expensive yes, but it has the imported tag attached to it. Levi's jeans for men come in many fits such as relaxed straight, regular straight, tight boot - all with zip flies. These range from Rs. 799 and above. Dart pants cost Rs. 649, engineered camos Rs. 699 and Bermudas Rs. 199. The worked upon range of jeans in blue and black is priced at Rs. 899. Worked upon round-neck tees cost Rs. 249, while polos come for Rs. 349 each.
The range for women is not so wide. Capris, or ¾ pants as they are called, come for Rs. 499, while cargos cost Rs. 649. Detachable camos with reversible panels are priced at Rs. 699. Gabardines with five pockets come for Rs. 500, while the jeans cost the same as that of men. Flat front trousers cost Rs. 699, while tops range between Rs. 149 and Rs. 299.
