Cauvery Arts and Crafts Emporium on S.D. Road, Secunderabad, now has Mysore silk saris too on offer, apart from handicrafts. Currently, there is a discount of ten per cent on cotton, crepe and silk saris.

AS YOU enter the showroom, the pleasant whiff of sandalwood is unmistakeable. It transforms you, at once, to the majestic Mysore.The Kannada ambience inside the Cauvery Arts and Crafts Emporium is complete. A whole array of handicrafts - exquisite carvings on wood, marble, bronze and what have you - , ivory and sandalwood, technology and sports, is available in the Cauvery emporium, near Manju Cinema in Secunderabad.
"Lots of customers had been making enquiries as to why we were not selling Mysore silk saris at the outlet," says T.V.S. Prakash, the manager of the emporium. And that is exactly why an exhibition-cum-sale of saris from Karnataka opened in the emporium recently. At present the collection is modest as it is more an attempt of testing waters.
BIDRI BECKONS: Vases and trays call for attention.
"We have plans to expand and this is the first step. Next month, around Dasara, we hope to have a much bigger collection of not only saris, but also kurtas, shawls and possibly dress materials," says Prakash.
There are cottons, crepes and silks on offer with a ten per cent discount, as an initial offer. "Cauvery will house everything from Karnataka shortly," Prakash says.
With the festival season coming up, womenfolk from Rajasthan to Andhra Pradesh now know where to head for to get that universally appealing drape - six yards of Mysore silk.
