Visakha Sahithi, at its weekly meetimg held recently, felicitated `Ubhaya Bhasha Praveena' and holder of separate doctoral degrees in Telugu and Sanskrit, Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry of the Department of Telugu in Andhra University, on the occasion of his shastiyaabdi.
Its founder-president, Kalaaprapoorna Ganapathiraju Atchutarama Raju, released the book `Jaanapada Geya Sahitya Prabha' scripted and published by Dr. Vedula. The Sahithi's executive president, K. Malayavasini, reviewed the contents of the book. Reputed litterateurs, Diwakarla Ramamurthy, Kondepudi Subba Rao, Perala Bharata Sarma and Rambhatla Nrusimha Sarma showered encomiums on Vedula for his excellent dissertative treatise on the Jaanapada literature in Telugu (folklore). The noted playwright, Muddamsetti Hanumantha Rao, proposed a vote of thanks.
The literary discourse on ''Praapanchikamu Mariyu Vedanthamu'' (mundane thoughts and philosophical outlook) by Sriman Daivagna Sarma of Hyderabad for Vintage Visakha, a forum for the elderly and senior citizens, was another event enlightening some literary works. He stressed the need to achieve a balance between the mundane needs and philosophical outlook from a young age. The forum's founder-president, A.R. Subrahmanyam, was in the chair.
