IIT team excels

The IIT Chennai team comprising three students has reached the national finals of the Microsoft Campus Challenge; an annual contest on software development.

AFTER WINNING the zonal finals, N.Dhyanesh, P.Balakiran and Milan Manawat, students of IIT Chennai have reached the national finals of the Microsoft Campus Challenge; an annual contest on software development held by Microsoft. The team submitted a software solution for the healthcare industry to empower doctors and surgeons to diagnose and treat patients more efficiently.

IIT Chennai will compete with Vivekanand College of Technology, Mumbai and IIT Guwahati in the national finals to be held in Bangalore on February 18. The team that wins will represent India at the Asia-Pacific finals of the Campus Challenge to be held in Beijing on February 28, 2003.

The second annual Microsoft Software Development contest had around 649 teams from 259 colleges from all over India submit their solutions. Microsoft Campus Challenge is aimed at the students of Microsoft certified technical education centers and engineering colleges in the county. The students who make it to the finals are required to build web services based business applications using visual studio .NET and the .NET framework. The following applications were submitted by the winning teams:

IIT Guwahati: B2B Prototype for Assam Tea Industry using XML Web Services.

IIT Chennai and Vivekanand College Mumbai: Solution for the Healthcare industry on the .NET technology for doctors and surgeons.

The Microsoft Campus Challenge is a unique programme that encourages students and developers across India to create valuable intellectual property which can be a great business opportunity. Microsoft helps in providing a common platform to both the Corporate and the Government sector to work closely with the Indian academic community in order to create ready solutions for the future.
