Weddings across the world

AYESHA SAYANI of Shunyata Productions, is producing the Indian part of a two-hour documentary film titled World Wedding for Discovery Networks International. The film will take a look at the institution of marriage in six cultures around the world. The programme's design is simple — teams of video-journalists will witness and record the excitement and drama of weddings in a wide variety of locations around the world. They will record not only the marriage ceremonies but will also be drawn intimately into the families of the bride and groom and examine the families, their hopes, dreams and fears. The documentary (which will be broadcast world-wide in 2004) will feature the wedding ceremonies and the events that lead up to those ceremonies of six different cultures: India, Vietnam, Italy, Brazil, Rwanda and New Zealand. The filming in India will be done in April this year.

Shunyata Productions is looking for couples getting married in those months. What they are asking of each couple, and their families, is that they be willing to, in essence, invite the world to their wedding. They need to find people who are articulate and not shy about who they are and what they are hoping for in life. The families, of course, must be equally willing to both express themselves and to permit an outsider to observe them in moments of both stress and joy. From the material they record on each wedding day — and the period before and after — they will create a two-hour documentary that presents not only the drama of weddings, but also looks at the world in which their characters live.

So, if you are a couple getting married in April this year and want to take part in World Wedding, contact Shunyata Productions within this week! Phone: Mumbai: 24911220 / 3 / 4 or 24949365 anytime between 10.30 a.m - 6.00 p.m.; Chennai: 24490717 (after 5p.m.) or 098203 18097 (anytime).
