'Band new' rock
|
Linkin' Park, Hoobastank, Papa Roach and more recently, Evanescence - these are bands that have created a new genre of music called new-age rock.

CUT MY life into pieces, this is my last resort... are the opening lines of one of the most popular new-age rock songs.
From the album, `Infest', released a few years ago by a band called Papa Roach, this song is enjoying new-found popularity, thanks to the new genre of rock music, less `raw' but more `head-banging'. Gone are the days when rock meant raw sounds, uncensored lyrics and objectionable ideas. Today, rock has become a powerful medium of expressing life and much more.
Papa Roach includes Coby (vocals), Jerry (guitars), Tobin (on bass) and Dave (drums). Slated as the `hardest' and most energetic among the new-age rockers, Papa Roach's `Last Resort' has become an anthem for rock lovers -- in-the face, expressive, and with an infectious tune. This signature track of the band paved the way for their second album, `Love, Hate, Tragedy', released a few months ago. The band hopes to recreate the `Last Resort' magic.
"Our band name means a dissipation, or disappearance, like vapour. It may suggest a sudden vanishing, but our music is poised for longevity," says the inlay card of `Fallen', the debut album of the new-age rock band, Evanescence (Sony Music; Cassette: Rs. 135). The first single, Bring Me to Life, is high on the international music charts. The album, released a week ago, has been climbing the charts in India too. The song, Bring Me to Life, is part of the soundtrack of `Daredevil'. The band also happens to be one of the first to feature a lead female vocalist, Amy Lee.
Another band that has hit the charts with their debut album is Hoobastank. Their first single, Crawling in the Dark (looking for the answer), amazed quite a few rock critics. Chris (on drums), Dan Estin (on guitars), Doug (vocals) and Markkee (on bass) make up the band. Hoobastank is one of the first new-age rock bands to participate in community service. It will soon kick off a programme in California to raise funds for a local school.
`Meteora' is the name of Linkin' Park's latest album (Tips; Cassette: Rs. 125). Meteora's lead single, Somewhere I Belong, is one of those songs that picks up tempo as it proceeds. Linkin' Park's music concentrates more on the lyrics and the theme of the song. The band includes Chester (vocals), Rob (drums), Brad (guitars) and Phoenix (on bass). Other bands worth checking out are Incubus, System of Down, Rage Against the Machine and Nickelbackaa.
