It's raining food...
A drop fell, and then two
The sweet smell rose up
in the air
As rain fell from the
sky-blue
The sweet pearls
danced in the air
As the sun, kissed
all but few.
MONSOON IS always a welcome treat. Only this time round, it's official, as the MariottWelcom hotel treated one and all with the mélange of colours and flavours at the Baywatch, its 24-hour multi-cuisine restaurant. Corresponding with Shravan when peacocks dance in ecstasy and women rejoice by heralding the festival of Teej, "Colours of Monsoon", was a special promotion featuring food for the monsoon.
Time-tested chaats and snacks served as the starters in the special buffet. Complementing the numerous snacks such as papdi chaat, aloo tikki, matar samosas, kalmi bade and the chilas was the eclectic assortment of beverages. Annanas ka panna, kesari badaam thandai and aamras greeted the diners.
"The menu has been chosen keeping in mind the food preferences during monsoon and the health aspects that go along with it," believes Gunjan Goela, the food consultant for ITC and one of the few behind Dilli ka Khaana at Dilli Haat.
Aloo ki sabzi with khasta kachori, varieties of paneer such as paneer khurchan and matar paneer and bharwaan paneer, kadhi pakodi, khoya matar makhana looked equally enticing with the aloo bedmis and naans on offer. All vegetarian stuff, but the non-vegetarians had no reason to worry. Also available were the regular dishes of the buffet selected from a range of restaurants serving the taste buds of a wide variety of people.
One had to plan meticulously to allow for the desserts. A range of halwaas such as halwaa nagori and ghiye ka halwaa alongwith ghevar, imarti, jalebi pheni, andarse ki goli, kesar kulfi etc... impressed everyone. Aided with chocolate gateau and other regulars such as ice creams it was all so delectable.
Lovely music playing alongside, it was as enjoyable a meal as they come if one got place to sit which was admittedly a little less for the deluge of people there. Anyway with health factors taken into account, another such treat would be surely "Welcom".
