And Rock came good

Rock lovers were catapulted into a mesmerising evening of electrifying music as Rockathon hit the city. H. VIBHU captures the psychedelic atmosphere

SINGING A rhetoric, not quite understood by many, Rock often " tests the borders of reality." Though it seemed untrue in the case of Kochi, as the Rockathon went underway, music lovers revelled in 40,000 watts of great sound and 45 KWs of psychedelic lights. The atmosphere was electrifying as words, notes, drums, catapulted the crowd into an ecstatic frenzy.

Of Indian origin, Prakesh, the lead vocalist, in harmony with Remo Daguati, at the guitar and bassist, Devrim Aky Uz, created rock magic, which was lapped up by citywallahs. Playing many of their own compositions and some hits of the 70's and 80's, Rockathon went on to prove that Heavy Metal, Acid Rock, Techno, House, Blues, Jazz, Rap and Reggae all co-exist in musical harmony. And though, Rock is a relic of the 60's, it still holds good.

Female vocalist Lucy Di Nardo, Matthias Walchli and drummer Andi Hug were the other members of the group. Banglore based `Angel Dust' was the Indian band that played at the Rock show.

Anij. P.A, a local drummer from the city was bowled over by the show and said, "I was happy to see families come for the event, dispelling the misplaced notion that rock music is remote and only for youngsters."

And so, Rock came good.
