One of the school buildings constructed by WRT -92 at Bheemunipatnam at a cost of Rs. 2 lakhs.
The Waltair Round Table 92, as part of the Round Table India's national project of "Freedom through education", has constructed five schools in and around Visakhapatnam upto June this year, benefitting about 1,200 children. Three more schools are being constructed at Kasimkota, Tagarapuvalasa and the Relli Veedhi Municipal Schools at a cost of Rs.50 lakh, benefitting 2,500 children, says the organisation chairman, R. Satish.
Round Table, an organisation of young men up to the age of 40 years, is a part of the World Council of Service Clubs, which is present in over 75 countries. In India, the RTI is divided into 10 areas for administrative convenience and is governed by the national board and area boards.
A school at Alamanda was inaugurated on December 14 and the second one at Kasimkota is scheduled to be inaugurated in January 2004.
The schools have been constructed in partnership with the State Government under the Janmabhoomi scheme. WRT has also conducted mega medical camps at Anakapalle, Narsipatnam and Visakhapatnam, in which 174 patients suffering from cleft lip and cleft palate were screened of whom 114 were found suitable for surgery. The patients selected for surgery are being sent to Hyderabad in batches. The first batch of 22 patients left for Hyderabad and are expected to return in about a week's time, says Mr. Satish.
Individuals interested in participating in WRT activities can contact the chairman on 2550578.
