The Troy line

Be a Diva or a Devi, inspired by styles from Troy

DIANE KRUGER'S Helen, in the Hollywoodian homage to Homer's `Illiad' - the epic flick Troy, has given it away. Yes, `drape' is the new word that all designer bees are buzzing. Greco-Romanesque and goddess like, it's the time to wear cowls everywhere, and get set for the party season in complete classical grandeur.

Diving neckline

Be a `Diva' and let the neckline of your evening dress take a dive with a soft and sensuous drape that falls flatteringly from your shoulders. Never mind if the mercury soars. Not `Diva' but `Devi' is your style? Then try this cowl on the neckline of your Kurta. For more drama, gather up the fabric in gentle folds on one side at the hem of the Kurta and tuck it in smartly with a jewelled brooch. Keep this Kurta, slim-fit, and its length - a natty mid-thigh. Then team it up with narrow pants that taper in at the hem, and let its length stop just above your ankles to teasingly reveal your glamorously high kitten-heeled sandals. For maximum flatter-factor, take soft `drapey' fabrics like chiffons and crepes and satins for eveningwear, and rayons for daytime. And to give you a designer's closet cue - cut on bias (fabric folded on an absolute triangle), to have the drape slim and shape your form.

Adventure dressing

And don't just stop here. Be more adventurous and wear the cowl in many other ways - at the back of your sari blouse, at the hem of your narrow pant, in the front panel of your wrap skirt, and like your attitude - on your sleeve.

Firmly gelled and pulled back hair with beaded hair clips added to your crown, a silk tote bag and only one single item of classical jewellery - a brooch, or drop earrings or a show-stopping ring in semi precious stones, and there you are - go on and descend like the Divine Venus herself.
