Tuck into a variety of biriyanis at this food fest
|
IF YOU are a gourmand and a non-veggie, biriyani will surely top your list of favourite items . The ongoing `Biriyani durbar' food festival at Super Cook, the multi-cuisine restaurant of Hotel Rathna Regent, Avinashi Road, is a feast for biriyani lovers.
On offer are 20 varieties of biriyanis. Though it is a non-vegetarian fare, there are quite a few vegetarian items too. Mushroom and baby corn biriyani is good. Button mushrooms and baby corn make for a good combination.
Paneer biriyani is a trifle heavy on ghee and spice. Nonetheless the cubes of freshly fried paneer offset this. You can also try the vegetarian sheek kebab biriyani and Kashmiri biriyani in this section.
Navarathna biriyani (mishmash of fruits and vegetables) leaves a sweet taste on your tongue.
For those used to tasting just mutton and chicken biriyanis, the non-vegetarian section offers something new. In the chef's special section, turkey biriyani (grilled turkey mixed with basmati rice) is a must try. It is spicy, yes; but the rich flavour comes through as you gulp it down.
Kaadai biriyani (kaadai bird cooked in Chettinad style) is scrumptious. Prawn biriyani, fish biriyani (comes with cubes of seer fish tossed in ginger and garlic) and hariyali chicken biriyani (a good mix of chicken kebab coated with mint) are some of the other items that you can savour.
A `biriyani eating out' experience is incomplete without Hyderabadi biriyani. Though the Hyderabadi chicken biriyani is heavy, you will relish this delicacy for its unique taste. "Our regular menu offers popular biriyanis. Through this fest, we will be able to understand the preferences of our customers better," says Stanley Stephen, F&B Executive of Hotel Rathna Regent.
Cucumber, tomato, onion and mixed vegetable raithas come as accompaniments for the biriyani. `Biriyani durbar' is open for lunch (12-3 p.m.) and dinner (7-11 p.m.) till March 13. For bookings, contact 0422-2213099 and 2214041.
