TWIN ROLE The right pick can turn Nautica's casuals into formal wear

How about a whiff of fresh sea breeze or crisp mountain air? Better still, the quiet darkness of the woods, the little whispers of nocturnal insects shining and staring directly at you?

Let us not get into the nitty-gritty of taking trips to the sea, mountains or the deep dark woods. We are here talking about apparel manufactured to suit these escapades or lend that rugged outdoor aura, whether or not you are going anywhere near the mountains.

Popularising casual wear and explicitly catering to the needs of the outdoor man is the recently opened outlet Nautica. The brand focuses on the requirements emerging from "an active outdoor life that is spent with family and friends."

Seven-day brand

Says Sumeet Yadav, Vice President, Arvind Brands: "Nautica prides in being a seven-day brand. Our collection takes care of the entire range of requirements for seven days a week." According to him, some of the casuals have the potential to turn formal if the occasion demands. The right pick is important here. With the core theme of the brand relating to sailing to lend the outdoor feature, the dιcor of the showroom too is structured on these lines. The collection includes special jackets, shoes, bags and other male accessories. All take cues from the sea to reflect the navigator concept. There is women's wear too though the range is limited.

But what catches the eye and makes the product stand apart is the "performance factor", Says Yadav.

"Each of our products has a unique function." You could pick a wristwatch that has the facility to estimate the length of time spent under water when diving. Or yet another which packs in a compass and chronograph. Thrown in with this is a set of binoculars, a pen and a torch to aid the lifestyle of the outdoor man. Likewise, if you pick a jacket, it would not only be waterproof but would breathe too to make you feel comfortable.

And your trendy shoes could have special soles to make it skid proof. "You will not skid even if there is oil," says Yadav. And that is not all. "These shoes have soles that are specially designed by orthopaedics to protect your back."

Your swimwear too packs in features like quick drying. So is the case with your shorts. "These shorts can dry in five minutes. This makes them ideal for sailing," says Yadav.

Set in a sprawling space of over 10,000 sq. feet and claiming to be the largest Nautica outlet in the world, it is soon to see the display of home collection too. The men and women's wear are available at a price range between Rs. 1,200 and Rs.7,500.

Nautica is located at Vittal Mallya Road. For more information, call 41120842.
